Tonight, on the Tonight show, Fred Thompson announces bid for President of the United States

Trash Dispatch: Tonight, on the Tonight Show with host Jay Leno, "Fred Thompson" announced his candidacy for President of the Unites States of America.

Mr. Thompson said that his reason or entering the race, was for the future of his children.

Divorced in 1985, he remarried in 2002 to Jeri Kehn, with whom he now has a three-and-a-half year old daughter, and a seven-month old son. He has two sons who live in Nashville. And in March 2002, in the aftermath of the loss of his adult daughter, Senator Thompson announced that he would not seek re-election to the Senate.

Fred Thompson, was the front runner of the Republican party, even Before he announced his run. However, according to Project Vote Smart (PVS);

"This candidate was contacted repeatedly over several weeks by Project Vote Smart staff members and by prominent political leaders, and asked to do the right and honorable thing by providing citizens with the critical information that the National Political Awareness test supplies. On each occasion this candidate failed to provide voters with this information."

Take the above statement how you will. But since I do not believe Mr. Thompson was actually participating in the political arena at the time of the 2006-2004 National Political Awareness Test (NPAT). It is concievable that there was -at least in his mind- no need to answer questions about Current issues. But in any case, the Trash Dispatch will query PVS to find out if they stand by their statement as is, or if they wish to modify as Fred Thompson did answer the NPAT in 1994.

Unfortunately, the 1994 NPAT is "pre-911" which means does not included Fred's stance on issues such as Iraq, and illegal immigration. Nevertheless, it does provide information on other issues such as;

Crime
Illegal Drugs
Health Care
Welfare
Unemployment
International Trade
Environment
Education
Abortion
Defense Policy / Foreign Policy
Campaign Finance
Congressional Reform
Balanced Budget Amendment
Line-Item Veto
Minimum Wage
Spending Priorities
Taxes
Legislative Priorities
