Trash Dispatch: Wordpress Blogs Security Warning!

A security flaw has been found in the new 2.2 release of the Wordpress Blog application used by Millions of online bloggers. The security flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation of the script, and allows Registered Users to edit the post of Other users.

WordPress 2.3.3 is an urgent security release. If you have registration enabled a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. In addition to fixing this security flaw, 2.3.3 fixes a few minor bugs. If you are interested only in the security fix, download the fixed version of xmlrpc.php and copy it over your existing xmlrpc.php. Otherwise, you can get the entire release here.

Also, there is a vulnerability in the WP-Forum plugin that is being actively exploited right now. If you are using this plugin, please remove it until an update is available from its author.

Since we are talking security, remember to use strong passwords and change them regularly. While you’re updating WP and your plugins, consider refreshing your passwords. [link]

Carsurvey.org is a car review website published by CSDO Media Limited. Initially inspired by some of the earliest experiments in user-generated reviews, the site now hosts almost 100,000 English-language car reviews submitted by visitors from across the globe.

From 1997 to 2000, founder Steven Jackson ran the site as a hobby. However, the growing hosting costs became significant, so Steven opted to run ads to cover them. He joined the AdSense program and was impressed with the initial results, which were further improved by carefully optimising the location, colour and size of the ads. By 2005, the time demands of running a popular website while holding down a day job were no longer sustainable. Update: The Good people at Blogger.com have come through and Fixed the disappearing sidebar issue.

However, because this was not the first "IE" issue we have had at the Trash Dispatch. And as unfortunately, neither do we think it will be our last IE Issue. The Trash Dispatch now Strongly Recommends, the use of Mozilla's Firefox web browser to view it's pages, and for Surfing the internet in general.

{Begin: Internet Explorer Versus Firefox}

Firefox is an Internet Standards Compliant browser.
Internet Explorer, is not.

Firefox is "Open Source" (which means No Hidden Viruses),
and is completely User configurable.

Internet Explorer, is not.

Firefox has "Free" support, and even offers the source code, and all documentation and "Free help", to reconfigure the Firefox browser to whatever configuration fits Your Needs, the best.

Internet Explorer, does not.

Firefox has "FREE", Extensions and Themes with which you can "spruce up" your browser making it More functional and appealing.

Internet Explorer, offers a "few" (a very few) extensions, but the really good ones, you have to Pay for, and then PRAY, you get support. And as far as Themes go, I've never seen one you didn't have to Pay for.

Firefox, has no problem rendering the "Trash Dispatch".

Internet Explorer, ...well, ...Internet Explorer is the reason why I am writing this article. And why I have had to apologize to you, the readers of the Trash Dispatch, for delivering such a "below standard" weblog.

In all fairess however, I must admit that, "I believe" the problem with the disappearing sidebar lies in the Blogger server, rather than in IEs rendering engine. Nevertheless, Firefox doesn't seem to be having this problem. And thereby, and henceforth, and for all the other reasons I have listed, and more; The Trash Dispatch will promote the use of Firefox over Internet Explorer.
