Russia to deploy new nuclear missile

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia hopes to deploy a new nuclear missile next year designed to penetrate anti-missile defenses and will build eight submarines to carry it, defense officials said on Thursday.

The latest statements underline Moscow's determination to upgrade its nuclear strike forces on land, sea and air. They are regarded by Russian commanders as the cornerstone of the country's defenses.

Colonel-General Vladimir Popovkin, head of armaments for the Russian armed forces, told the Defense Ministry newspaper "Red Star" that Russia's recent war with Georgia "compels us to rethink the current state of the armed forces and how they should develop further."

The number of Army suicides increased again last year, amid the most violent year yet in both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

An Army official said Thursday that 115 troops committed suicide in 2007, a nearly 13 percent increase over the previous year’s 102. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because a full report on the deaths wasn’t being released until later Thursday.

AVONDALE, La. — The USS New York, an amphibious assault ship built with scrap steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center, was christened Saturday as a source of strength and inspiration for the nation.

…the bow stem, which contains 7.5 tons of steel from the site, bore a shield with two gray bars to symbolize the twin towers and a banner over that declaring “Never Forget,” a slogan among New Yorkers.

…the steel from the towers is now part of the ship that splices through the water, leading the way.

“It resurrects the ashes, so to speak, to do great things for our nation,” said Bill Glenn, a spokesman for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding,

Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., said Sept. 11 was a turning point in the nation, and will never be forgotten because remnants of the disaster are part of the ship.

“If the USS New York has to follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell, PCO Jones and his crew … have my full support,” he said to a standing ovation….

Navy Tests High-Powered Electromagnetic Railgun

FoxNews- In the demonstration Thursday, engineers fired the electromagnetic railgun at what they said was a record power level: 10 megajoules. …According to the Navy, the railgun, when fully developed, will be able to launch solid projectiles at Mach 5, or about 3,700 mph.

The previous railgun power-use record was about 9 megajoules of muzzle energy.

Railguns use electromagnetic energy to launch projectiles long distances — more than 200 nautical miles.

Because the railgun uses electricity and not gunpowder to fire projectiles, it eliminates the possibility of explosions on ships.

The Navy hopes the railgun will eventually replace the standard 5-inch gun on its ships. The weapon isn’t expected to be deployed until at least 2020.

The railgun tested Thursday actually has a capacity of 32 megajoules, but the Navy is slowly building up the energy level in a series of tests.

That’s a lot of power, but with a new series of electrically-powered ships coming on line, the Navy figures generating capacity will not be a problem.

According to the Navy, the railgun, when fully developed, will be able to launch solid projectiles at Mach 5, or about 3,700 mph.

Petraeus for the top NATO command later this year, a move that would give the general, the top American commander in Iraq, a high-level post during the next administration but that has raised concerns about the practice of rotating war commanders.

A senior Pentagon official said that it was weighing “a next assignment for Petraeus” and that the NATO post was a possibility. “He deserves one and that has also always been a highly prestigious position,” the official said. “So he is a candidate for that job, but there have been no final decisions and nothing on the timing.”

The question of General Petraeus’s future comes as the Pentagon is looking at changing several top-level assignments this year. President Bush has been an enthusiastic supporter of General Petraeus, whom he has credited with overseeing a troop increase and counterinsurgency plan credited with reducing the sectarian violence in Iraq, and some officials say the president would want to keep General Petraeus in Iraq as long as possible.”

Saddam Hussien returns to power as Iraq’s parliament votes to reinstate former Baath Party officials in a move to reunite the divided country.

—(reuters) Iraq’s parliament voted on Saturday to let thousands of members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party return to government jobs, winning praise from Washington for achieving a benchmark step toward reconciling warring sects.

The law is the first of a series of measures that Washington has long been pressing the Shi’ite Islamist-led government to pass in an effort to draw the minority Sunni Arab community that held sway under Saddam closer into the political process.

“This law preserves the rights of the Iraqi people after the crimes committed by the Baath Party while also benefiting the innocent members of the party. This law provides a balance,” Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said.

Washington had introduced “de-Baathification” when it administered Iraq in 2003-04, but later acknowledged that the measures went too far and asked Iraqi leaders to ease them. [link]

With the Sunni insurgency raging and political leaders making little progress in reconciling Iraq’s Shiite, Sunni Arab and Kurdish communities, the Americans switched positions and urged the dismantling of de-Baathification laws.

US to Send 3,000 More Marines to Afghanistan

Trash Dispatch: The Pentagon is preparing to send at least 3,000 Marines to Afghanistan in April to bolster efforts to hold off another expected Taliban offensive in the spring, military officials said Wednesday.

The move represents a shift in Pentagon thinking that has been slowly developing after months of repeated insistence that the U.S. was not inclined to fill the need for as many as 7,500 more troops that commanders have asked for there. Instead, Defense Secretary Robert Gates pressed NATO allies to contribute the extra forces.

“a proposal will go before Gates on Friday that would send a ground and air Marine contingent as well as a Marine battalion — together totaling more than 3,000 forces — to southern Afghanistan for a “one-time, seven-month deployment.”

Morrell added that Gates’ thinking on the issue has “progressed a bit” over time as it became clear that it was politically untenable for many of the NATO nations to contribute more combat troops to the fight.

“The commanders need more forces there. Our allies are not in the position to provide them. So we are now looking at perhaps carrying a bit of that additional load,” the spokesman said.

Why make it “look like” a war against terrorism, when your going to be accused of improprieties anyway.

I say KILL THEM ALL, TAKE THE OIL, and make the pacifist psychopaths happy that they were right. Because in the long run, they don’t give a damn about the people in Afghanistan, or Iraq, anyway.

In deed, they don’t give a damn about anybody but themselves. And the easiest way to shut them up, is to prove them right. As “approval”, is all they are looking for anyway.

Palestinian officials have repeatedly said they want a detailed timeline for talks that are expected to begin in earnest after a U.S.-sponsored Mideast conference in November or December. But although Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has consistently resisted the notion of a deadline, they had never before made the matter a condition for talks.

Trash Dispatch: Reuters in a story by Paul de Bendern and Evren Mesci, stated; "ANKARA - NATO member Turkey recalled its ambassador to the United States for consultations on Thursday after a vote in a U.S. congressional committee branded killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks genocide. The committee's decision is expected to weaken U.S. influence over Turkey at a time when the government is considering a military incursion into mainly Kurdish northern Iraq to fight Kurdish rebels."

Stop: The fact that Turkey recalled it's Ambassador to the United States is in deed, Very Serious!

Generally, while withdrawing an ambassador from the United Nations is usally done in protest of the United Nations, a country will not withdraw an ambassador from another country unless, there is a threat of War. (note: just as the United States withdrew it's ambassador to Iraq, just before the "Shock and Awe" of a Non-Violent War precluding the fact, that most wars "are" violent.)

However, and even More important than any war with Turkey (especially since Turkey has Never been a True allie in the war against Saddam Hussien), is the latter half of the second paragragh in the Reuter's report, which says; "the government is considering a military incursion into mainly Kurdish northern Iraq to fight Kurdish rebels."

The Kurds, in fact, have always been accepting, and even helpful in the dismanteling of Saddam Hussien's government. So why would the United States allow, or even entertain the notion of a Turkish Invasion into Northern Iraq?

"Turkey's prime minister will ask parliament next week to authorize a military push although analysts say a large cross-border operation remains unlikely."

Stop: If Turkey invades Iraq, or even if they simply look cross-eyed at our Kurdish friends in the north of Iraq, ... we should Kill Them ALL!!!

Yeah, I know. That statement portrays me as a "War Monger". But the truth behind the failure of the United States to "quickly" win the war in Iraq, is for that very reason. For "IF", the United States had gone in there and Bombed ALL of Iraq, we would not now be Bogged Down in a war that is Now unpopular. Nevertheless, as Americans like to see themselves as being "different" from the rest of the world, the term "Unconditional Surrender of the defeated country", is no longer a part of the American vocabulary as the defeated nation, might become, offended.

And speaking of offense. Just what is it, that has so offended Turkey, that they would go so far as to pull their ambassador out of the United States? Well...

Deny that you did it however. And you Cannot be forgiven. For even as forgiveness is "freely given", so too it must be "Freely Accepted".

Stop: Now this I can see! If the United States is allowing Kurds to attack Turkey, then this is something that needs to be dealt with. And swiftly. However, since Turkey is at least "partially" responsible for the failure of the United States to secure Iraq, in that they *would NOT allow us to use their bases in the initial invasion of Iraq*, -thereby Causing an insufficient number of troops to be deployed to Northern Iraq in the first place- then, *Skrew em*. As they have brought it on themselves.

Besides, and even as I said at the beginning. If the Turks, refuse to accept (confess) responsibility for 1.5 million Armenian deaths. Then How, should they be forgiven?

YahooNews: White House near decision to close Gitmo

"WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is nearing a decision to close the Guantanamo Bay detainee facility and move its terror suspects to military prisons elsewhere, The Associated Press has learned."

There goes the neighborhood!

Senior administration officials said Thursday a consensus is building for a proposal to shut the center and transfer detainees to one or more Defense Department facilities, including the maximum-security military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where they could face trial.

KANSAS??? But that's where we're growing our "corn"!

President Bush's national security and legal advisers had been scheduled to discuss the move at a meeting Friday, the officials said, but after news of it broke, the White House said the meeting would not take place that day and no decision on Guantanamo Bay's status is imminent.

Thank God they got caught!

"It's no longer on the schedule for tomorrow," said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the National Security Council. "Senior officials have met on the issue in the past, and I expect they will meet on the issue in the future."

Three senior administration officials spoke about the discussions on condition of anonymity because they were internal deliberations.

Expected to consult soon, according to the officials, were Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff, National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Peter Pace.

Previous plans to close Guantanamo ran into resistance from Cheney, Gonzales and former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. But officials said the new suggestion is gaining momentum with at least tacit support from the State and Homeland Security departments, the Pentagon and the Intelligence directorate.

Cheney's office and the Justice Department have been against the step, arguing that moving "unlawful" enemy combatant suspects to the U.S. would give them undeserved legal rights

If Vice President Chaney and the Justice Dept. are "against" moving enemy combatants to the U.S., then "who" is making the push?

Judge "Sam Lindsey", DICTATED:
"Farmers Branch, rather than deferring to the federal government's determination of immigration status, has created its own classification scheme for determining which noncitizens may rent an apartment."

Well EXCUSE, ME!
But I thought, I had the Right, to determine who can live in MY House and who Can't!
"NO", said the Judge. The Citizens of the United States have "NO Right" to detimine who can live in their house, and who can't.

"That decision", he DICTATED,
"is made by the United States Federal GOVERNMENT, and NOT, by it's People!!!"
