letter to republican senator Mark Kirk

Subject:
Non binding resolution on Iraq

To:
Rep. Mark Kirk

February 16, 2007

I am outraged to hear you did not stand with the majority of Republican congressman supporting our President and our troops.

Congressman Kirk, why did I vote for you if I cannot trust you to vote with the majority of our party? You have betrayed my trust and the trust of all the voters who stood by their party and returned you to office in November 2006. It's your responsibility to vote the collective will of your constituency regardless of your own personal feelings.

You are a public servant a congressional representative. Should we have a Civics 101 lesson? 300 million people can't vote everyday on issues. We elect a representative who aligns him or herself with a party ideology and we trust he or she will vote with the majority from his or her party. You went your own way you may think that's your right but your there to represent the will of the people who sent you there.

I respected your intelligence when I voted for you and loath to believe you are foolish enough to trust the bias of endless, daily polls that portray our nation as a frustrated people, weak in resolve and stupid enough to believe that any withdrawal form Iraq prior to some significant claim of success in any way strengthens our national security.

The Democrat party of this country has waged an endless and hateful anti-George Bush campaign for the last 6 years. It has retarded are progress in Iraq, it has emboldened our enemy and it has put our troops in danger. You just helped along and I wonder if it was because your re-election bid against Dan Seals was closer than you were comfortable with and that is a shame.

This is twice now as you took the lead in opposing our president on stem cell research.

So Congressman Kirk, the next time you stretch you hand out to me, on the train platform in Arlington Heights and ask for my support, what do I say?

I am disgusted.

Arlington Heights, IL
